Most parents see the potential in their young athlete to be the next superstar but how soon should they start training outside of their sport? The answer is now if they haven’t already. At this age and point in time is when athletes start to become serious. The sports they play are becoming more competitive, the demands in time and effort are increasing, and every sport is quickly becoming a year around thing. Most parents don’t realize this but it’s setting their kids up for failure through overuse injuries and athletes who quickly become burnt out by doing the same specialized skills all the time. The athletes who don’t include a diverse workout plan outside of their sport will not become well-rounded and their chances of excelling in their sport quickly diminish. Genesis Athletes this age train hard while having fun and learning crucial movement patterns and techniques they’ll need once they get to high school. Speed and agility is also included to teach proper running technique as well as helping enhance their level of general physical preparedness. Body weight exercises make up the majority of the exercises we do because athletes must master their own weight before anything external is added. Training smart like we do at Renegade will not have a negative effect on athletes’ growth which is still the common misconception about athletes working out at this age. After at least three months of training you’ll see a significant difference in your young athlete and they will start separating themselves from untrained kids their age.
